Cocktail with grapefruit

If you just made candied citrus peels from my last post, don’t let that beautiful syrup go to waste! It is delicious with sparkling water and even better in cocktails.

I recently made candied grapefruit peels and I’m left with a complex syrup; it has bitter notes and sweet citrus flavours. The syrup will pair beautifully with with gin, vodka, or tequila so I’ve included recipes for each. Equipped with a flavourful syrup, a stocked bar, and a soda machine, I am ready for 5 o'clock!

Grapefruit gin cocktail

1.5oz gin

1oz grapefruit syrup

3oz tonic

Dash of bitters

  1. Pour the gin and syrup in a tumbler and stir to help dilute the sugar.

  2. Add crushed ice.

  3. Top up with tonic.

  4. Add a dash of bitters and gently stir.

  5. Cheers!

Grapefruit vodka cocktail

1.5oz vodka

1oz grapefruit syrup

3oz soda

  1. In a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice, pour in the vodka and syrup.

  2. Shake and pour into a coupe, or martini glass.

  3. Top up with soda and garnish with candied grapefruit slice.

  4. Santé!

Grapefruit tequila cocktail

1.5oz tequila

1oz grapefruit syrup

3oz soda water

Half a lime

Sea salt

  1. Using the half lime, wet the rim of a tumbler and then dip in a shallow bowl filled with sea salt.

  2. Squeeze the lime juice and add the syrup. Stir to dilute the sugar.

  3. Add crushed ice.

  4. Pour in tequila and top with soda water.

  5. Salud!

Grapefruit Italian soda

2oz grapefruit syrup

4oz sparkling water

  1. In a tall glass pour in the syrup and half of the sparkling water. Stir to dilute the sugar.

  2. Add crushed ice and top up with more sparkling water.

  3. Add a colorful straw and enjoy!
